Responsible Development

Guided by Best-in-Class Mining Practices

As the project moves through the Yukon’s highest level of environmental and socio-economic assessment, we remain committed to exceeding expectations.

Environmental stewardship

Western Copper and Gold is committed to building a project that exceeds compliance standards. Through stakeholder collaboration and best-in-class mining practices, we aim to:

  • Unlock long-term economic growth
  • Drive regional infrastructure investment
  • Provide critical minerals for a net-zero future

We are committed to responsible development and a culture of excellence, care, and respect.

YESAB panel review

The Casino Project is currently undergoing YESAB Panel Review — the highest level of environmental and socio-economic assessment in the Yukon.

  • Submission of the ESE Statement in 2025
  • The process includes technical analysis, public hearings, and a final recommendation
  • All development aligns with federal and territorial regulatory frameworks

MAC membership

Western Copper and Gold is a proud member of the Mining Association of Canada and fully adheres to its Toward Sustainable Mining (TSM) standards.

These frameworks promote accountability beyond regulation, with protocols covering tailings management, Indigenous engagement, and community well-being.

Traditional territories & First Nations engagement

Casino is situated within the traditional territories of several Yukon First Nations. From the outset, we have prioritized meaningful, constructive relationships with:

  • Selkirk First Nation
  • Little Salmon/Carmacks First Nation
  • Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in
  • White River First Nation
  • Kluane First Nation

Western Copper and Gold has signed agreements with several First Nations to support their involvement in the environmental assessment process.

Our development approach is built on mutual respect, ongoing consultation, and alignment with community expectations. We are committed to respectful development on the lands of the Northern Tutchone people, who have been stewards of this land since time immemorial.
